BEGOÑAKO BASILIKA (Bizkaiko garrantzitsuena)

Begoñako basilika Bilboko izen bereko auzoan dagoen basilika da, Bizkaiko zaindaria den Begoñako Andre Mariaren omenez egina.

Egungo apaiza Jesús Francisco Garitaonandia da.


1. Historia

Nahiz eta lehen beste eraikinak izan, egungo basilika XVI. mendekoa da, Sancho Martínez de Aregok diseinatua. Bere hiru nabeen eraikuntza XVII. mendean bukatu zuten, hau da, 1511an hasi zenetik mende bat iraun zuten. Eraiki zuten bitartean gotiko estiloa garatu zuten eta Gil de Hontañónek egindako aurrealdea beste zatiak ez bezalakoa da.

XIX. mendean, basilikak Bilboko harresia osatu zuen. Izan ere, Tomas Zumalakarregi jeneral karlista bertatik hurbil zauritu zuten. Gudak erabat kaltetu zuen eraikina. Hori zela eta dorrea zein fatxadaren zati bat José María Basterrak zaharberritu zuen 1902 eta 1907 bitartean.

1942ko abuztuaren 16an, falangistek bonba bat jarri zuten basilikaren ateetan karlistak hiltzeko asmotan. Zenbait zauritu izan ziren. Juan José Domínguez falangista ezaguna heriotz-zigorra jaso zuen ekintza hau egiteagatik.

Kalteak zaharberritzeko lanek 1993ko irailetik 1994ko ekainera iraun zuten, hormak garbitu zituztenak. Kanpaidorreak 24 kanpai ditu, astunena tona batekoa izanik. Kanpaiak 1922an Suitzako Sumiswalden egin zuten eta zapi doinu ezberdin jotzen dituzte.

2. Salbe eta basilika

Bilboko Salbe auzoaren izena hortik portura zetozen marinelak basilikaren lehendabiziko ikuspegia zutelako datorkio. Bere bidaia bukatuta zegoela eskertzeko, Begoñako Andre Mariari Salbe bat esaten zioten.

3. Jaiak

Basilikaren jai nagusiak abuztuaren 15ean (Mariaren Jasone) eta urriaren 11n (Begoñako Andre Maria) ospatzen dituzte. Bilboaldean eta Bizkaia osoan hara erromes joateko ohitura dago. Horrela, San Joan Laterangoaren basilikaren lotuta dagoenez, induljentzia edo barkamena lortzen dute.

Origins and legends

Several possible origins are commonly given. The practice of blessing a sneeze, dating as far back as at least AD 77, however, is far older than most specific explanations can account for.^[1]

One explanation holds that the custom originally began as an actual blessing. Gregory I became Pope in AD 590 as an outbreak of the bubonic plague was reaching Rome. In hopes of fighting off the disease, he ordered unending prayer and parades of chanters through the streets. At the time, sneezing was thought to be an early symptom of the plague. The blessing ("God bless you!") became a common effort to halt the disease.^[2]

A variant of the Pope Gregory I story places it with Pope Gregory VII, then tells the common story of "Ring Around the Rosey" being connected to the same plague.^[3]

A legend holds that it was believed that the heart stops beating and the phrase "bless you" is meant to ensure the return of life or to encourage your heart to continue beating.^[1][2][4]

Another version says that people used to believe that your soul can be thrown from your body when you sneeze,^[1] that sneezing otherwise opened your body to invasion by the Devil^[2] or evil spirits,^[4] or that sneezing was your body's effort to force out an invading evil spirit.^[1] Thus, "bless you" or "God bless you" is used as a sort of shield against evil.

Alternatively, it may be possible that the phrase began simply as a response for an event that was not well understood at the time.^[1]

Another belief is that people used to see sneezing as a sign that God would answer your prayers^[3] or an omen of good fortune or good luck.^[1] In this case, "Bless you" would be in recognition of that luck.

Tibetan Buddhists believe a sneeze (like meditation, falling asleep, preparing to die) can provide a moment of "clear consciousness," when people are opened to greater understanding.^[5]

La mirra (del latín myrrha, y éste del griego μύῤῥα) es una sustancia resinosa aromática. Se obtiene haciendo una incisión en la corteza del árbol Commiphora myrrha, de la cual exuda una resina gomosa, de color amarillo que al secarse tiene formas irregulares y tonalidad pardo-rojiza.

Muy valorada en la antigüedad, ya que era uno de los componentes para la elaboración de perfumes, incienso, ungüentos, medicinas y para diluir tinta en los papiros. Se usaba también para embalsamar a los muertos (Juan 19:39).

Según el Evangelio de Mateo, es uno de los regalos que los Magos ofrecieron al niño Jesús (Mateo 2:11) en la Epifanía. En su contexto espiritual, la mirra, corresponde a la dimensión de resurrección de Cristo.

La mirra, en época del imperio romano, era usada como anestésico para los moribundos o a los condenados a muerte y se solía dar mezclada con vino (Marcos 15:23).

La gomorresina se ha utilizado también como estimulante y tónico, y en la actualidad se emplea como antiséptico en enjuagues bucales y dentífricos.
